AI and Operating Businesses

“We’re looking for operating businesses that AI can’t take over.” Business buyer

Wall Street Journal, July 3, 2025, “CEOs Say It Loudly: AI Will Wipe Out Many Jobs.”

  • Ford Motor Company – AI will replace half of all white-collar workers.
  • JPMorgan Chase – operations head count will fall by 10%.
  • com – workforce will be smaller in coming years because of the “once-in-a-lifetime” AI technology.

AI does some things really well. A study published in the Washington Post on reading chores gave Claude and ChatGPT much higher scores than Gemini, Copilot, and Meta AI and still their “grades” were only a D+.

Back to the top statement and realize AI is not going to drill wells, cut grass, fix or install a furnace, etc. Robots do some of these repetitive tasks and that’s just an evolution of things like CNC machines.

When it comes to softer skills, it’s going to be a while. Yes, AI can have basic conversations (I have an upcoming podcast guest who’s the founder of a company that uses AI for initial customer service conversations). But what about advice? I tell our clients half of what I do is quasi-therapist work and comes from having a trusting relationship, experience, and having the right questions versus all the answers.
