As you get this memo I (John) am in Antigua for our annual Rotary service project working in the schools. We shipped 1,500 laptops computers plus other things for the schools and take 14 Bellevue School District tech students who set up wi-fi networks in schools and non-profits.
I tell the students and their parents, “We’re making a small part of the world a better place.” Our motto is, “Improving Education Through Technology.”
For everybody the goal should be to make your client’s or customers world better. This could be by:
- Selling a product to make them more productive or happier.
- Getting them a good deal, a good employee, or customer.
- Keeping them out of bad deals or out of trouble.
Whatever we do for those others, who give us their money for our service or product, the result should be both sides feel they got the better of the deal, i.e., value.
“There is no better feeling than helping others, especially when it’s 82 degrees in February.” John Martinka
“I wish I could tell you it gets better. But it doesn’t get better. You get better.” Joan Rivers
“Diplomacy is the art of letting somebody else have your way.” David Frost
