The other night we were watching “Bar Rescue” starring Jon Taffer. Mr. Taffer was working with a bar/restaurant in Chicago that was struggling to catch on. At one point he said to the owner that she needed to act like an owner and do three things:

  1. Pay attention to the numbers
  2. Pay attention to the strategy
  3. Let the managers manage

Pretty straightforward advice that applies to every business and working on strategy and vision while the team manages is the goal of most owners. Some want to work in their business but most prefer to work on their business.

What happens is they get caught up in the day-to-day and the strategy falls to the bottom of the pile.

That’s all for now; I’m off to do something long-term and strategic.
